The Christian County community is rallying behind one of its own as Tonio Williams, a 2024 graduate of Hopkinsville High School, heads to the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament with the Three Rivers Raiders.
The Raiders earned their place in the national spotlight after clinching the Region 16 Championship, and they’re set to open tournament play this Saturday against Vincennes University in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Williams, in his freshman season with Three Rivers, has played an important role coming off the bench, averaging 4.4 points per game. Known for his hustle, defensive energy, and team-first mindset, Tonio represents the spirit and work ethic Hopkinsville athletes are known for.
Three Rivers College has a rich basketball legacy, one that some in Christian County might remember. Former Christian County Colonels standout Maxie Stamps played for the Raiders in the early 2000s, and NBA legend Latrell Sprewell remains the program’s all-time leading scorer. That legacy continues with Tonio Williams now carrying the torch for Hoptown on a national stage.
As the Raiders gear up for their first-round matchup, the Christian County community is proud to cheer on Tonio and his team. Win or lose, Tonio’s journey from Tiger Gym to the NJCAA Tournament is one we celebrate. Let’s go, Raiders!
