This week, I am so excited to celebrate Dixie Goff, a bright and dedicated Health Science Pathway student who is making a difference every day at the Planters Bank – Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex.
The Sportsplex is one of the crown jewels of our community. At 54,000 square feet, this climate-controlled, state-of-the-art facility provides space for competitive leagues, tournaments, recreational opportunities, and community events. But it’s more than just a sports complex—it’s a place where wellness and community connection thrive. That’s where Dixie is leaving her mark.
Through her co-op placement, Dixie is helping patrons stay healthy by educating them on the benefits of exercise. She is learning how to connect with people of all ages, answer their questions, and encourage them to take advantage of opportunities like the free walking space the Sportsplex offers. Greeting patrons at the front door, she provides customer service with a smile and guides them in the right direction, showing just how much of a difference one caring student can make.
The skills Dixie is learning here go far beyond her daily tasks. She is building employability skills like communication, leadership, and responsibility—all essential in today’s healthcare field. As our community continues to face a growing need for healthcare workers, experiences like this help prepare students to step into those roles with confidence and compassion.
This partnership is a wonderful example of what makes Work-Based Learning so powerful. For Dixie, it’s an opportunity to grow in her pathway and begin shaping her future career. For the Sportsplex, it’s a chance to invest in the next generation of healthcare workers while benefitting from the energy, enthusiasm, and perspective that students bring. And for our community, it strengthens the workforce pipeline we all rely on.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Tony Henson and the entire Sportsplex team for opening their doors to Dixie and supporting our students in such a meaningful way. Your commitment to mentoring and guiding young people is helping to create healthier families, stronger schools, and a brighter future for Christian County.
