The 2026 track and field season is officially underway, and both Hopkinsville High School and Christian County High School wasted no time showcasing their talent, depth, and competitive spirit at their first meet of the year.
From relay dominance to individual standouts across sprinting, distance, and field events, the athletes from both schools made it clear that this season will be one to watch.
As a team, Hopkinsville turned in strong overall performances, finishing 5th in both the girls standings (47 points) and boys standings (78 points) against a competitive field. Christian County also showed determination and growth, placing 7th in the girls standings (27 points) and 6th in the boys standings (48 points)—a solid start as both programs build momentum early in the season.
Relay Teams Lead the Way
Hopkinsville High School set the tone early with a dominant performance in the boys 4×800-meter relay. The team of Tyson Cavinder, Savior Davis, LaMareon Jeffers, and Carlo Jones captured 1st place with a time of 9:02.10, earning 10 team points and establishing themselves as a force in distance relays .
The Tigers’ success in relays continued throughout the meet.
The boys 4×200-meter relay team—Willie Ennels, Thomas Laliberte, Keyshun Teal, and Jaylen Ray—secured 1st place (1:33.78), while the boys 4×400-meter relay team of Jaylen Ray, Carlo Jones, Willie Ennels, and Savior Davis closed the meet strong with another 1st place finish (3:41.19) .
On the girls side, Hopkinsville’s relay teams added key points and strong finishes.

The 4×200-meter relay team of Grace Cansler, Leaunna Wilkerson, Jayla Brunson, and SauKuuipo Esteban earned 3rd place.

The 4×100-meter relay team of Kaniya Jackson Grundy, Ollia Dixon, Jayla Brunson, and SauKuuipo Esteban also finished 3rd.

The 4×400-meter relay team—Grace Cansler, Alexis Herrera-Lovato, Leaunna Wilkerson, and Kaniya Jackson Grundy—continued the momentum with another strong finish.
Christian County’s relay teams also showed promise and competitiveness across the meet.

The girls 4×200-meter relay team of Genesis McGee, Kaliyah Leavell, Adreyona Smith, and Imani Cushenberry competed well in a deep field.

The boys 4×200-meter relay team—Karmelo Bailey, Paul Abren, Deasian Harris, and Tavarous Quarles—earned a top-eight finish.

The boys 4×100-meter relay team of Paul Abren, Karmelo Bailey, Chynaysneon Harris, and Levar Daniel and the girls 4×100-meter relay team of Kacsidy Quarles, Avaiya Brown, Malaya Stiger, and Imani Cushenberry both contributed valuable team points.
In the 4×400-meter relays, Christian County continued to show depth, with the girls team of Mia Gbemudu, Imani Cushenberry, Shyla Haverstick, and Malaya Stiger, and the boys team of Satona Bailey, Cayden Cline, Max Ray, and Karmelo Bailey both competing strongly to close out the meet.

Individual Standouts
Beyond the relays, both teams had athletes deliver impressive individual performances.
For Hopkinsville:

Keyshun Teal won the boys 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.88 and also placed in the 110-meter hurdles .

Savior Davis earned 1st place in the boys 800-meter run (2:09.37).

Alexis Herrera-Lovato claimed 1st place in the girls 800-meter run (2:33.24).
For Christian County:

Satona Bailey captured 1st place in the boys 200-meter dash (22.30), leading the Colonels in sprint events .

Genesis McGee placed 3rd in the girls discus (75-8), highlighting strength in the field events.

Max Ray added points with a 5th place finish in the boys 800-meter run (2:16.90).
A Strong Start to the Season
This opening meet provided a clear glimpse into what could be an exciting season for track and field in Christian County. Hopkinsville’s relay dominance and balanced performances across events, combined with Christian County’s emerging talent in sprints, distance, and field events, set the stage for a competitive spring.
With strong team finishes, standout individual efforts, and relay teams already performing at a high level, both the Tigers and Colonels are off to a fast start—and just getting warmed up.
