Colonels Battle Early but Fall to Madisonville-North Hopkins

The Christian County Colonels showed early promise but couldn’t overcome a big third inning, falling 8-2 to Madisonville-North Hopkins on Tuesday.

Christian County came out with energy and execution in the top of the second inning, stringing together quality at-bats to take the early lead. Andrew Mayes got the Colonels on the board with an RBI single, part of a two-hit inning that gave Christian County a 2-0 advantage.

The momentum, however, shifted in the bottom of the third. A combination of defensive miscues and timely hitting allowed Madisonville-North Hopkins to take control of the game. The Maroons capitalized on opportunities, turning errors and aggressive baserunning into a five-run inning that flipped the score to 5-2.

Despite the setback, the Colonels continued to compete at the plate. Gage Montes and Andrew Mayes both led the way offensively with two hits each, helping Christian County total eight hits on the night. Mayes and Layton Lindsey each drove in a run, providing the team’s offensive production.

On the mound, Andrew Fincham got the start, working through three innings while striking out two. Dylan Sweeney and Gavin Mitchell provided relief efforts, helping stabilize things as the game moved into the later innings.

Defensively, the Colonels showed flashes, including turning a double play, but were unable to fully recover from the third-inning surge.

Even in the loss, Christian County continued to show growth at the plate, putting together multiple-hit performances and maintaining pressure offensively. As the team continues to build chemistry, those moments remain key moving forward.

The Colonels will look to bounce back as they head to Farragut for their next matchup on Friday.
