Gateway Academy celebrated a powerful and inspiring moment on April 28, 2026, as seniors in the Teaching and Learning Pathway officially signed their commitment to become future educators during the Commitment to Teach Signing Day.
Surrounded by family members, teachers, administrators, and community partners, these students took a major step toward shaping the future—not just for themselves, but for generations of students to come.
The event highlighted the dedication and growth of Gateway Academy seniors who have spent countless hours preparing for this moment through classroom instruction, hands-on projects, and clinical observations. As shared during the ceremony, these students have demonstrated determination, commitment, and a genuine passion for serving others, positioning them to become impactful educators in the years ahead.
A key focus of the program is the “Grow Your Own” initiative, which encourages students to return to Christian County after college to teach. Thanks to partnerships like the Rotary Impact Scholarship Program, students have access to opportunities that can eliminate college debt if they return to teach locally—creating a win-win for both the students and the community.
A Life-Changing Profession
Guest speaker Donna Ware from Murray State University shared her personal journey, emphasizing the life-changing power of education. From being a first-generation college student to becoming a teacher and school administrator, her message was clear: education opens doors and creates opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom.
She reminded students that every profession begins with a teacher and encouraged them to embrace the impact they are about to make.
Answering the Call to Teach
The ceremony wasn’t just about signing letters—it was about answering a calling.
Students were recognized not only for their academic achievements but for their decision to step into one of the most meaningful professions in the world. Teachers were described as mentors, leaders, and champions who build confidence, spark curiosity, and inspire the next generation.
Each student signed their letter of intent in front of the crowd, symbolizing their commitment to education, much like an athlete signs to play at the next level.
