The Christian County Tigers are getting hot, but the fire behind their three-game winning streak was built long before the season began. Through the heat of the summer, Head Coach William Bryan and his coaching staff pushed their players to become more than a talented soccer team. They worked to build toughness, discipline and a mentality that could carry the Tigers through the challenges of an entire season.
Now, that work is showing up on the scoreboard. Christian County rolled to its third straight victory Friday night, dominating host Foundation Christian 6-0 and improving to 7-3 on the season. The Tigers have outscored their last three opponents 19-1 and have now posted back-to-back shutouts.
Friday night was another statement from a Christian County team that continues to build momentum. Jamiah Shanklin got things started with 30:12 remaining in the first half, finding the net off an assist from Anthony Evangelista to put the Tigers ahead 1-0.
Joseph Lopez quickly added to the lead, scoring his first goal with 25:18 remaining. Wilmer Macario followed just over four minutes later to stretch the advantage to 3-0, a lead the Tigers carried into halftime.
Christian County could have been satisfied with a three-goal cushion, but the Tigers came out of halftime still attacking. That ability to stay focused and continue competing with the same intensity is exactly the mentality Bryan and his staff have worked to develop within the program.
Lopez struck twice within a three-minute span in the second half, completing his hat trick and pushing Christian County’s lead to 5-0. He finished the night with three goals and an assist. Lester Macario put the finishing touch on the offensive performance with 13:37 remaining, giving the Tigers their sixth goal of the night.
While the offense continued to apply pressure, Christian County’s defense refused to give Foundation Christian an opportunity to climb back into the match. Goalkeepers Landon Beaulieu and Stafford Winston combined for seven saves and the clean sheet, giving the Tigers their second consecutive shutout.
The numbers tell the story of a dominant night — six goals, seven saves, another shutout and a third straight victory — but they also point to something bigger happening within the Christian County program.
Bryan and his coaching staff spent long, hot summer days demanding effort when there were no crowds in the stands and no wins or losses being recorded. The Tigers were challenged to push through fatigue, remain disciplined, trust one another and continue working when things became uncomfortable. The goal wasn’t simply to prepare players physically for the season. It was to build a team capable of staying mentally strong when the pressure arrived.
Ten games into the season, that work is becoming easier to see. Christian County sits at 7-3, has won three straight matches and has overwhelmed opponents 19-1 during its current streak. The offense is finding the net, the defense is protecting it, and the Tigers are beginning to play with the confidence of a team that believes in what it has built.
The next test comes Tuesday night when Christian County travels to Murray. The Tigers will take a three-game winning streak with them — along with the toughness forged during those long summer days when nobody was keeping score.
