Christian County High School student Zyhir Harris, an Agriculture Pathway scholar, is gaining valuable hands-on experience as an assistant manager in the produce department at Food Giant. Under the mentorship of Tayveon Duerson, Zyhir is connecting his classroom studies with practical applications in the agricultural and retail industries.
In his role, Zyhir is responsible for inventory management, ensuring the availability and quality of fresh fruits and vegetables. He also oversees the ordering and supply chain process, adhering to the strict regulations set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This unique opportunity aligns perfectly with his agricultural studies, giving him firsthand insight into how agriculture and retail work together to provide fresh, high-quality produce to customers.
Zyhir’s experience at Food Giant not only complements his education but also helps him develop essential skills for his future. As he navigates the complexities of produce management, he is building a strong foundation in organization, problem-solving, and leadership. Zyhir hopes to pursue a career in agriculture after graduation, and his work-based learning placement is helping him take meaningful steps toward achieving that goal.
Food Giant is a new partner in the Christian County Public Schools’ Fusion Work-Based Learning Program this year. Their commitment to providing real-world opportunities for students like Zyhir highlights the importance of collaboration between schools and local businesses in preparing the next generation of skilled professionals.
Christian County Public Schools extends its gratitude to Food Giant for their partnership and investment in student success. By mentoring students and offering them the chance to apply their knowledge in a professional setting, they are playing a vital role in shaping the future of our community.
