Mikieyah Stowe Gains Real-World Healthcare Experience at SaveMore Drugs

Mikieyah Stowe, a senior at Christian County High School and a Gateway Academy Health Science Pathway scholar, is gaining invaluable hands-on experience through her work-based learning placement at SaveMore Drugs. This local pharmacy, known for its dedication to mentoring students, has a long history of participating in the Fusion Work-Based Learning Program, providing countless young individuals with opportunities to explore careers in healthcare.

At SaveMore Drugs, Mikieyah plays an essential role in the daily operations of the pharmacy. Her responsibilities include assisting customers with prescription pick-up, ensuring prescription accuracy, and notifying the pharmacist when customers have questions about their medications. This hands-on experience gives Mikieyah a firsthand look at the vital role pharmacies play in community healthcare.

Mikieyah’s placement also emphasizes the importance of confidentiality. Like all Health Science students, she is bound by HIPAA regulations, learning the critical responsibility of protecting patient information. This understanding of confidentiality and professionalism is a cornerstone for anyone pursuing a future in healthcare.

These experiences align with Christian County Public Schools’ Profile of a Graduate, which prepares students to excel as Career- and Work-Ready Professionals.

SaveMore Drugs’ continued participation in the Fusion Work-Based Learning Program highlights the importance of collaboration between local businesses and schools. By offering placements to students like Mikieyah, they are helping to shape the future of the healthcare workforce and investing in the growth of young professionals in the community.

Christian County Public Schools extends its gratitude to SaveMore Drugs for their commitment to mentoring students and providing them with opportunities to succeed.
