Gateway Academy’s robotics teams—8349G (Original Geek), 8349U (Ursus), and 8349T (Trainwreck)—took on top competition at the Bots @ Bristol VEX V5 Robotics Competition Signature Event this weekend, facing off against elite teams in a fast-paced battle of engineering, strategy, and teamwork.
8349G – Original Geek
Team 8349G had a strong showing in the qualification rounds, earning wins in key matches. They battled hard in Qualifier #10, securing a close 34-33 victory, but faced setbacks in later rounds, such as a 28-37 loss in Qualifier #34. Their run ended in the Round of 16 (R16 #7-1), where they were eliminated after a tough 10-38 defeat.
8349U – Ursus
Ursus demonstrated consistent performance throughout the competition, kicking off their campaign with a 30-19 win in Qualifier #3 and later dominating Qualifier #105 with a commanding 43-18 victory. Their momentum carried them into the elimination rounds, where they triumphed in Round of 16 #2-1 with a 42-15 win. However, their journey ended in the Quarterfinals (QF #1-1), falling 10-34 to a strong opponent.
8349T – Trainwreck
Trainwreck fought hard throughout the tournament, securing a tight 22-20 win in Qualifier #13 before running into a tough loss in Qualifier #31 (11-42). They rebounded in Qualifier #93 with a solid 33-28 win, but despite their efforts, they were unable to advance past the qualification rounds.
Next Stop: Cupid’s Clash
With Bots @ Bristol behind them, Gateway Academy’s robotics teams now set their sights on next week’s Cupid’s Clash tournament, hosted at Christian County Middle School. Competing on their home turf, the teams will look to build on their experiences, refine their strategies, and aim for a strong performance in front of the local crowd.
