From the hardwood at Christian County High School to the national stage, Derrell Bateman’s journey continues to inspire those cheering him on back home. The former Colonel standout is now a national champion, helping lead Trinity Valley Community College to victory in the 2025 NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship with a 69-61 win over Connors State.
While Bateman didn’t see action in the title game, his contributions across the season helped pave the way to the Cardinals’ historic success. Appearing in 34 games, he brought energy, defense, and heart every time he stepped on the court, averaging 2.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. His season-high performance came on February 5th when he dropped 13 points against Kilgore College—a reminder of the impact he’s capable of making when called upon.
