Brady Tyler Gains Engineering Experience with Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority

The Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority (HWEA) continues to be a dedicated partner in the Fusion Work-Based Learning Program, playing a key role in preparing Christian County Public Schools students for future careers. Each year, HWEA provides students with invaluable mentorship and real-world experience, reinforcing their commitment to developing local talent.

Meet Brady Tyler

This year’s HWEA work-based learning student is Brady Tyler, a Gateway Academy senior in the Engineering Pathway and a Christian County High School student. Brady is gaining hands-on experience in multiple aspects of the water utility industry, broadening his understanding of engineering concepts and real-world applications.

A Comprehensive Learning Experience

Under the leadership of CEO Derrick Watson and direct supervision of Ms. Sheila Bennett, Brady is assisting across multiple departments, including:

  • Customer service – Understanding how utilities serve the community.
  • Utility statements – Gaining insight into financial and billing operations.
  • Water and sewer main responsibilities – Learning the essential infrastructure that supports the city.
  • Engineering – Applying problem-solving skills to real-world water system challenges.
  • Water treatment – Exploring the processes that ensure clean, safe water for residents.

By working across these areas, Brady is gaining a well-rounded understanding of utility operations, a crucial foundation as he prepares for a future in mechanical engineering.

Investing in the Future

HWEA’s continued partnership with the Fusion program demonstrates the importance of businesses investing in future workforce development. By providing mentorship and real-world learning opportunities, they are equipping students like Brady with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in their careers.
