Throughout November, the fields at Ruff Park came alive as 4th to 6th graders participated in a series of drill sessions and scrimmage games. This program focused on the fundamentals of the game, providing young athletes with an opportunity to grow their skills and experience a variety of game scenarios.
The goal of the “camps” was to bring together players of different ages and backgrounds, including those from various teams and even out-of-town participants. The blending of these diverse groups was a major success, fostering an environment of competition, camaraderie, and learning. Players not only honed their skills through drills but also showcased significant development during scrimmages, proving the value of the program’s structure.
“We wanted to expose the players to new parts of the game they might not have experienced yet,” the organizers explained. “It’s about teaching them to compete while also broadening their understanding of the sport.”
The success of this initiative would not have been possible without the support of Nick Harbold and Payton Kidd, who generously allowed the use of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Youth League (HCCYL) facilities. Their contribution played a crucial role in making the program accessible to many young athletes.
Looking ahead, the program aims to build on this momentum by continuing to collaborate with HCCYL to reach even more children. “Our goal is to grow the league and provide opportunities for as many kids as possible to get involved,” the organizers shared.
With a focus on fundamentals and a commitment to growth, this program has set the stage for future success, both on and off the field.
