It has been a season of growth and challenges for Christian County under first-year head coach Dior Curtis, but on Tuesday night, the Colonels showed exactly why they have bought into his leadership. Led by the relentless energy and clutch shooting of NaDarien Rowe, Christian County overcame an early double-digit deficit and battled their way to a hard-fought 69-62 victory, securing a spot in the district championship game.
The game began with the Colonels facing an early uphill climb, as their opponent came out with fast-paced play and hot shooting. However, the Colonels stayed composed, slowed the pace, and began imposing their physical style of play. Rowe’s scoring touch kept Christian County within striking distance, and as the second quarter unfolded, the defense locked in, disrupting passing lanes and forcing tough shots.
Rowe caught fire from beyond the arc, draining five three-pointers in the first half to help keep the Colonels in the fight. By halftime, Christian County had trimmed the deficit to six, setting the stage for a second-half comeback.
The third quarter saw an intense battle, with both teams playing at a frenetic pace. While baskets were hard to come by, the defensive pressure from the Colonels intensified. Rowe continued to lead the charge, hitting a jumper from the free throw line to give Christian County its first lead of the night late in the third quarter. Moments later, he knocked down his seventh three-pointer, extending the advantage.
Zion Acree played a key role in the second half, providing critical minutes and energy on both ends of the floor. He helped the Colonels push their lead to eight early in the fourth quarter, and as the clock wound down, the defense stepped up in the most crucial moments.
With under two minutes to go, Christian County held a slim 60-59 lead before Kam Williams delivered in the paint. Rowe then added another key basket, pushing the lead to five. The Colonels stayed composed in the final seconds, breaking through full-court pressure and sealing the victory at the free throw line.
Rowe was electric, finishing the night with 33 points, including seven three-pointers. Acree added 13 points, with 11 of them coming in clutch moments of the second half. Josh Bridges contributed seven, while Rahsean Stevenson chipped in six.
With the win, Christian County improves to 7-22 and advances to Friday night’s district championship game. The Colonels have faced adversity all season, but under Coach Curtis, they’ve found their identity at the right time. Now, with momentum on their side, they look ahead to their biggest challenge yet—competing for a district title and earning their spot in the 2nd Region tournament.
