Several students from Christian County Public Schools (CCPS) showcased their talents and achievements at the Distinguished Young Women event, held last Sunday at the Alhambra Theatre. The competition, which awarded $10,000 in scholarship money, was a significant opportunity for young women in the area to demonstrate their excellence across multiple categories.
Two students from Hopkinsville High School placed in the top five, with Rebecca Wood securing 2nd place and Alyssa Meyer earning 5th place. Their outstanding performances were recognized among a field of talented competitors.
Participants in the event were judged in five key categories: Scholastics, Talent, Interview, Fitness, and Self-Expression. Co-winners were selected for each category, with CCPS students making a strong showing:
- Rebecca Wood was honored as the co-winner in both the Scholastics and Self-Expression categories, highlighting her academic prowess and ability to articulate her thoughts with grace.
- Kennedy Gray, also from Hopkinsville High School, took home the co-winner title in the Fitness category, showcasing her dedication to physical health and well-being.
In addition to the primary categories, several special awards were voted on by peers, resulting in more scholarship opportunities for CCPS students:
- Alyssa Meyer received the Overachiever Award, recognizing her relentless drive and hard work.
- Rebecca Wood was also awarded the Spirit Award, a testament to her positive influence and supportive nature throughout the competition.
