Cheyanne Rodgers, a Christian County High School Agriculture Pathway scholar, is gaining firsthand experience in the agricultural industry through her work-based learning placement at Hopkinsville Elevator, one of the leading agricultural cooperatives in the region. Under the guidance of her supervisor, Heather Montgomery, who serves as the Controller at Hopkinsville Elevator, Cheyanne is applying her skills while learning the inner workings of an organization dedicated to serving the local agricultural community.
As part of her role, Cheyanne assists with clerical duties, providing essential support during the busy harvest season. This experience allows her to contribute to the cooperative’s operations, which play a vital role in the agricultural supply chain. By engaging with the day-to-day needs of the ag community, Cheyanne is gaining a deeper understanding of the industry she plans to dedicate her career to.
In addition to her clerical responsibilities, Cheyanne is developing important soft skills and employability skills that will serve her well in her future. These include professional communication, time management, and the ability to adapt to the fast-paced environment of harvest season. These experiences are preparing her for a successful transition to her next step: pursuing a degree in Agricultural Education at Murray State University after graduation.
Hopkinsville Elevator’s commitment to mentoring students like Cheyanne highlights the importance of partnerships between local businesses and schools. By employing a Fusion co-op student, they are not only investing in the workforce of tomorrow but also supporting the development of future leaders in the agricultural field.
Christian County Public Schools extends its gratitude to Hopkinsville Elevator for their dedication to the Fusion Work-Based Learning Program and their role in helping students like Cheyanne bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application.
