Colonels Break Through with Gritty Win Over Daviess County

The Christian County Colonels finally shook off a 12-game losing streak, rallying to a thrilling 12-10 victory over Daviess County on Friday night. The Colonels showed determination and resilience, with standout performances from players like Kemarion Ford, whose timely interception sealed the win in the final moments.

This hard-fought victory moves Christian County to 1-6 overall, with their district opener win setting the stage for a pivotal matchup against McCracken County next week. A win there could put the Colonels in prime position to host a first-round playoff game—a remarkable turnaround.

Despite early struggles, including two missed opportunities in the red zone, the Colonels found their stride. Mikhi Boyd’s interception was the spark the team needed, setting them up for a big play from quarterback Jayden Williams. On 4th and 13, Williams connected with Josh Bridges, who made an impressive catch to open the scoring. Though the two-point attempt didn’t convert, the Colonels had momentum on their side, leading 6-0.

Daviess County responded, briefly taking a 7-6 lead in the third quarter. But Christian County’s defense, led by CJ Banks and Ford, held strong under pressure. Banks made a crucial fumble recovery and nearly took it to the house, showcasing the Colonels’ tenacity. Despite challenges—including three fumbles and an interception—the Colonels battled through, refusing to let the game slip away.

The decisive moment came when Ford stepped up in the clutch, intercepting a pass on 3rd and 9 from the 17-yard line with just over a minute left, securing the Colonels’ first victory since last season.

Offensively, Christian County shined with Tristin Dillard’s 113-yard rushing performance, including a game-winning 20-yard touchdown run. Williams also showed resilience, completing 7 of 18 passes for 104 yards, with Aiden Jesse contributing three receptions for 61 yards.

The Colonels’ determination and teamwork have renewed their hopes for the rest of the season. With this hard-earned victory behind them, the team is focused and ready to take on McCracken County next week, aiming to bring playoff football back to Christian County.
