Dixie Smith Gains Healthcare Experience at Crofton Pharmacy Through Fusion Program

Dixie Smith, a senior at Christian County High School and a Gateway Academy Health Science Pathway scholar, is gaining valuable hands-on experience at Crofton Pharmacy under the mentorship of owner and supervisor Jeb Stewart. As a new partner in the Fusion Work-Based Learning Program, Crofton Pharmacy is providing Dixie with an opportunity to bridge classroom learning with real-world application in the healthcare field.

In her role at Crofton Pharmacy, Dixie is learning the critical responsibilities of working in a community pharmacy. She assists with daily operations, interacts with customers, and supports the pharmacist in ensuring medications are dispensed accurately and efficiently. This experience is giving her firsthand insight into the vital role pharmacies play in healthcare delivery while preparing her for a potential future in the healthcare industry.

Through her placement, Dixie is also developing important soft skills such as professional communication, time management, and attention to detail—skills that are critical for success in any healthcare role. Her work aligns with Christian County Public Schools’ Profile of a Graduate, showcasing her growth as a Career- and Work-Ready Professional.

Crofton Pharmacy’s participation in the Fusion program reflects its commitment to mentoring local youth and supporting the development of the next generation of healthcare professionals. By providing students like Dixie with hands-on opportunities, they are investing in the future of both their business and the community.

Christian County Public Schools extends its gratitude to Crofton Pharmacy and Jeb Stewart for their dedication to mentoring students and for joining the Fusion Work-Based Learning Program. Partnerships like these are essential for helping students prepare for bright futures in their chosen careers.
