Fusion in Action: Diego Velasco Alvarez Promotes Health at the YMCA

Diego Velasco Alvarez, a student at Gateway Academy and Hopkinsville High School (HHS), is combining his passion for health and fitness with hands-on experience through the Fusion Work-Based Learning (WBL) program. As part of the Health Science Pathway, Diego is working at the YMCA, promoting wellness and learning the personal training business.

At the YMCA, Diego is gaining valuable skills that extend beyond fitness. He is learning how to educate others on preventing disease through healthy habits, a proactive approach that focuses on maintaining overall wellness. This opportunity gives him insight into the personal training field while building employability skills like communication, customer service, and professionalism.

The YMCA is a long-time partner of the Fusion program, and their continued support provides students like Diego with real-world experience in a supportive environment. Through this partnership, CCPS students are not only learning skills but also making a positive impact in their community.

Thank you to the YMCA for mentoring Diego and helping him grow as a future health professional. Partnerships like these are what make the Fusion program so successful, empowering students to build skills while giving back to their communities!
