The Gateway STLP Team recently had the opportunity to experience media production firsthand during an educational visit to KET Studios in Lexington on Friday, December 5.
During the visit, scholars toured the professional studio facilities and learned about the many roles involved in broadcasting and television production. Students gained insight into how content is planned, filmed, edited, and shared with audiences across the state, providing a behind-the-scenes look at careers in media and technology.
In addition to the studio tour, students participated in a hands-on video workshop, where they collaborated to create their own movie trailers. This interactive experience allowed scholars to apply storytelling, creativity, and technical skills while working as a team—mirroring real-world production environments.
Opportunities like this help students build skills outlined in the CCPS Profile of the Graduate, including collaboration, creativity, communication, and career awareness. By engaging directly with industry professionals and authentic tools, students are able to connect classroom learning to future career pathways.
The Gateway STLP Team’s enthusiasm and teamwork made the experience especially meaningful, and the trip served as a powerful reminder of how experiential learning can inspire students to dream big and explore possibilities in media, broadcasting, and technology.
