Gateway Students Gain Real-World Experience on the Sidelines of HHS High’s Final Game of the Season

Gateway Academy students showcased their real-world skills and industry readiness during the final game of the season for the Hopkinsville High School Tigers football team. Three dedicated students from Gateway’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways spent Friday night applying what they learned in the classroom to hands-on experiences on the sidelines.

Giada Belisle and Lainey McCoy, students in the video production and photography pathway, brought their honed photography skills to life as they captured the action, emotion, and intensity of the game. Having developed their craft through countless hours of practice, the duo focused on telling the story of the game through dynamic shots that highlighted not just the players but the team spirit and atmosphere. Their experience shooting high school basketball events further prepared them for this night, refining their ability to photograph fast-paced sports environments with precision.

Meanwhile, Alexis Snorton from the sports medicine pathway exemplified how CTE programs empower students with practical knowledge. Under the guidance of Ray Carroll, Hopkinsville High School’s athletic trainer, Alexis provided essential assistance on the sidelines. She practiced taping and supported student-athletes throughout the game, responding to the needs of football players and cheerleaders alike. This experience was more than just a night at a game; it was invaluable training that strengthened her skills and provided a glimpse into her future career.

These types of CTE opportunities are crucial for students preparing to transition from high school to their chosen fields. By merging classroom learning with real-world application, students like Giada, Lainey, and Alexis gain a deeper understanding of their professions, build confidence, and develop readiness for post-graduation careers or further education. As the pathways at Gateway continue to evolve, the students’ hands-on experiences, such as working on the sidelines, become foundational to their journey toward professional success.
