The Hopkinsville High School baseball team has had a season to remember, marking their place in history as the first team since 1950 to advance to the Elite 8 State Championship in Kentucky. This milestone not only brought immense pride to the school and community but also showcased the dedication and talent of its remarkable players.

Tonight, the Hopkinsville community gathered to celebrate this incredible season with a banquet honoring the students and their hard work. The event was a testament to the team’s perseverance and the unwavering support of their families, friends, and fans.

Leading the charge was JJ Thompson, who was named the team MVP and Pitcher of the Year. His exceptional skills on the mound and unwavering leadership set the tone for the Tigers’ successful season. Thompson’s commitment and drive have earned him a spot at Wright State University, where he will continue his baseball journey.

Zach Moss, the offensive powerhouse of the team, was honored as the Offensive Player of the Year. His consistent performance at the plate played a crucial role in the Tigers’ advancement through the season. Moss is now stepping into the next chapter of his baseball career as a freshman at the University of Kentucky, ready to make his mark at the collegiate level.

The Most Improved Player award went to Lucas Kaetzel, whose growth and determination throughout the season were truly inspiring. Kaetzel’s hard work paid off, and he has already begun making an impact beyond high school. Having graduated from Line School, he is now serving as a lineman for electric companies in our community, demonstrating the same dedication and commitment he showed on the field.

Gavin Powell, named the Best Defensive Player, epitomized Defensive prowess. His agility, quick reflexes, and strategic play were instrumental in securing key victories for the team. Powell’s contributions on the field were vital to the Tigers’ historic run.

Andrew Mayes also stood out this season, earning the Tiger Award for his grit and never-quit attitude. Mayes consistently demonstrated his willingness to do whatever was needed by the coaching staff, both on and off the field. His selflessness and determination were key factors in the team’s success and a true embodiment of the Tiger spirit.

As the season concludes, Hopkinsville High School bids farewell to its senior stars, Thompson, Moss, and Kaetzel. Their legacy is one of hard work, perseverance, and excellence.
