Intro Media Arts Students Jump Into the Studio, Showcase Hands-On Skills

Students in the Cinematography & Video Production Pathway recently stepped into the studio and put their growing skill sets on display, showcasing their ability to learn on the fly while working with professional-style camera equipment and interview setups.

For many students in the Intro to Media Arts course, this marked their first time operating cameras in a live studio environment. From framing shots to adjusting focus and capturing clean interview footage, students were challenged to apply classroom concepts in real time. The experience emphasized hands-on learning, adaptability, and teamwork—key skills in both media production and future career pathways.

Rather than following a scripted routine, students were asked to problem-solve as situations unfolded. Camera operators adjusted angles on the spot, interviewers practiced clear communication, and students rotated through roles to gain a better understanding of how each position contributes to a successful production.

“This was a great opportunity for students to step outside of their comfort zones,” the pathway instructor said. “They had to think quickly, communicate clearly, and trust their training—all skills that are essential in video production.”

The studio session highlighted how quickly students are developing technical confidence and creative awareness. It also served as an early milestone for Intro Media Arts students, demonstrating that even at the beginning level, they are capable of producing meaningful content with professional tools.

As the program continues, students will build on these foundational experiences, expanding their knowledge of cinematography, audio, lighting, and storytelling. Their work will eventually be featured through CCPSStudentLife.com, giving students an authentic platform to share their voices and showcase their talents.

The session proved that learning by doing remains at the heart of the Cinematography & Video Production Pathway—where creativity, technical skills, and real-world experience come together in the studio.
