The Fusion Work-Based Learning Program is proud to highlight Keegan Brown, a Christian County High School and Gateway Academy Welding Pathway student, who is gaining hands-on experience at Powell’s Metal Sales under the mentorship of Brian Powell.

Learning the Trade

At Powell’s Metal Sales, Keegan is honing his skills in welding and metal fabrication, key areas for a successful future in the skilled trades. His daily tasks include:

  • Reading and using a tape measure to ensure precise measurements.
  • Applying math and fractions to accurately cut and assemble metal components.
  • Cutting metal for custom jobs, learning the importance of precision in fabrication.
  • Welding techniques, gaining hands-on experience in an essential trade.

Preparing for a Future in Welding

Keegan’s time at Powell’s Metal Sales is giving him both technical knowledge and real-world experience, setting him up for a career in welding or metal fabrication. He is also developing key employability skills, including:

  • Attention to detail – Ensuring every cut and weld is accurate.
  • Problem-solving – Learning to think critically when working on custom metal projects.
  • Work ethic and reliability – Showing up prepared and ready to work each day.
