The Christian County Lady Colonels basketball team is entering the new season with high expectations, thanks to a successful preseason and an experienced roster. Head Coach Kiki Radford shared her insights during media day at The SportsPlex, discussing the team’s readiness, goals, and defensive strategies.
A Promising Start
Coach Radford expressed her satisfaction with the team’s preparation. “We had really good preseason workouts. The beginning of practices has been really well,” she said. “These girls, they are clicking and ready to go. I think they’re getting tired of practice, and they’re just ready to get out there and show everybody what they’re going to do this season.”
Motivated by unfinished business, the Lady Colonels are aiming high this year. “Obviously, getting to Rupp Arena, and these girls have been working hard. Hopefully, everything will pay off at the end,” Radford added.
Experience and Team Depth
The Lady Colonels are bolstered by an experienced lineup, featuring six seniors who bring leadership and skill. “With six seniors, we have a lot of experience. We have a lot of fun. We have a lot of players who can come out and drop 20 points and 10 rebounds at any given moment, so it’s a group effort,” Radford said. The depth of talent means opposing teams cannot focus on one player, as the Lady Colonels have multiple offensive threats. “Other teams can’t focus on one player because we will have a lot of weapons out there. Hopefully, this season everyone will be able to shine and have their moment.”
Shooting has been a significant focus in the offseason, ensuring the team’s offensive potential remains strong. “In the offseason, we are working on shooting, that is something every team has to work on – exciting and scoring. We have to make sure we are taking the time in practice to get extra shots in and just continue to work,” Radford noted.
Defensive Intensity
The Lady Colonels’ defense will continue to be aggressive, utilizing a press and half-court trap strategy. “Of course, you are going to see that. As long as NeVaeh Day is on the floor, we are going to press,” Radford confirmed. Day’s athleticism and defensive prowess play a pivotal role in the team’s strategy. “She’s long, she’s athletic, and with her at the head of our press, we are going to get a lot of deflections and a lot of steals.”
Setting the Stage for Success
With a strong mix of senior leadership, depth, and a relentless defensive game plan, the Christian County Lady Colonels are prepared to take on the competition this season. Coach Radford and her team are determined to build on their hard work, aiming for a deep run that brings excitement to their fans and achieves their ultimate goal of reaching Rupp Arena.
