The Christian County Lady Colonels delivered a dominant performance Friday night, defeating the visiting Hopkinsville Lady Tigers 66–33 in a pivotal District 8 matchup at Lyle Dunbar Gym.
While the two rivals are scheduled to meet again later this season, Friday’s contest marked the final meeting between Christian County and Hopkinsville at Lyle Dunbar Gym, as the two schools prepare to consolidate next year.
Christian County (6-6, 1-0) wasted no time setting the tone, using relentless defensive pressure to hold Hopkinsville scoreless from the field until the final seconds of the first quarter. That pressure fueled an early surge, with the Lady Colonels building a 15–3 advantage after one period behind the play of senior guards Adryona Smith and Anaysia Bagwell, along with the defensive presence of Neziah Bell.
Hopkinsville (1-9, 1-1) showed signs of life in the second quarter as Laelah Watkins scored five of the Lady Tigers’ eight points in the period, helping keep her team within striking distance at halftime, 25–11.
Christian County responded with its most complete stretch of the night coming out of the locker room. Following a halftime challenge from head coach Kiki Radford, the Lady Colonels forced turnover after turnover and outscored Hopkinsville 29–11 in the third quarter to take a commanding 54–22 lead into the final period.
Genesis McGee, limited early by foul trouble, sparked the third-quarter run with 10 points and finished with 15 for the night. Bagwell led all scorers with 19 points, while Carliah Hobson added 11 as Christian County showcased its depth.
A running clock went into effect midway through the fourth quarter, allowing the Lady Colonels to empty the bench in the closing minutes.
Watkins led Hopkinsville with 12 points.
Christian County was originally scheduled to play Heritage Christian Academy on Saturday, but HCA officials announced a forfeit Friday afternoon and confirmed the Lady Warriors would not participate in the postseason. The Lady Colonels return to action Jan. 20 at home against Henderson County.
Hopkinsville, which has now dropped six straight games, travels to Henderson County on Monday night.
