Late Rally Falls Short, but Lady Tigers Prove Their Fight at Home

The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers stepped onto their home floor Thursday night inside Tiger Gym looking to build momentum during the Toyota of Hopkinsville Holiday Classic. Fresh off their first win of the season the night before, Hopkinsville faced a Caldwell County team eager to bounce back from a tough triple-overtime loss earlier in the week.

Early on, turnovers proved challenging for the Lady Tigers, allowing Caldwell County to jump out to a quick lead. Despite the early deficit, Hopkinsville settled in and worked to regain control, closing the first quarter trailing 11-5.

Refusing to let the game slip away, Hopkinsville responded with energy and effort, particularly on the glass. KaMya White sparked the comeback with strong rebounding and hustle plays that helped the Lady Tigers claw back into contention. By late in the third quarter, Hopkinsville had trimmed the margin to just one point at 27-26, and a late three-pointer kept the game tight at 32-31 heading into the final period.

Momentum shifted quickly in the fourth quarter as White opened with a steal and layup, giving Hopkinsville its first lead of the night at 33-32. The Lady Tigers continued to battle, matching Caldwell County basket for basket in a game that saw multiple lead changes and momentum swings. Even after Caldwell County surged ahead late, Hopkinsville answered again, pulling within one point at both 46-45 and 48-47 in the closing moments.

Despite the late push, Caldwell County was able to seal the game at the free-throw line, escaping with a 51-47 win.

Hopkinsville was led by Serenity Ewing and Amani Pizana, who each scored 10 points, while Laelah Watkins added 9 points in a strong all-around effort. White’s presence on the boards and defensive intensity played a key role in keeping the Lady Tigers within striking distance throughout the second half.

While turnovers impacted both teams, Hopkinsville’s resilience and determination were on full display, as the Lady Tigers showed their ability to fight through adversity and compete until the final buzzer. With continued growth and confidence, Hopkinsville looks poised to carry that effort forward as the season continues.
