The Fusion Work-Based Learning Program is excited to welcome Fox Creek Cattle Company as a new business partner for the 2024-2025 school year! This opportunity allows Christian County High School Agriculture students Noah Hook and Micah Hook to gain real-world experience in the cattle industry while developing valuable skills for their future careers.
Learning the Livestock Industry
Under the supervision of Bryan Roberts, Noah and Micah are getting firsthand experience in cattle management at Fox Creek Cattle Company, which holds approximately 1,300 young cattle. The farm serves as a “cattle preschool”, where cattle are raised before being sold to Iowa and Texas. Some of these cattle eventually make their way to well-known steakhouses, including Jeff Ruby’s, while others head to Texas, where the brisket is among the best in the country.
Hard Work in All Conditions
Noah and Micah are fully immersed in farm life, learning how to care for and handle livestock in all weather conditions—from extreme heat to freezing temperatures. They perform essential tasks like administering inoculations, which may include NSAID medicine to support joint health in cattle. Their work is demanding, often leaving them dirty, tired, and accomplished at the end of each day.
Skills for the Future
Through their work at Fox Creek Cattle Company, Noah and Micah are developing essential skills, including:
- Animal health and care – Administering proper treatments and vaccinations.
- Livestock handling – Understanding best practices for cattle management.
- Work ethic and resilience – Performing physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions.
- Problem-solving and adaptability – Addressing challenges that come with raising livestock.
The Importance of Local Business Partnerships
