At Millbrooke Elementary, the staff is committed to shaping students into lifelong learners and future graduates who are prepared to communicate, collaborate, and problem-solve in an ever-changing world. Every lesson and activity is designed with purpose, helping students develop the essential skills outlined in the Profile of a Graduate.
Recently, teachers Mrs. Hesson and Mrs. Little provided their students with an exciting opportunity to practice these skills through a hands-on project focused on severe weather. In their classrooms, students worked together in groups to create detailed drawings representing various weather events, including blizzards, tornadoes, hurricanes, thunderstorms, tsunamis, and floods. More than just an art project, this activity encouraged students to think critically about natural disasters and their impact.
Once their drawings were complete, the students took on the role of Empathetic Communicators, presenting their work to the class and explaining the necessary safety precautions for each type of storm. This project was not just about learning science—it was about fostering collaboration, building confidence in public speaking, and encouraging students to articulate their ideas effectively.
