Profile of A Graduate: Caleb Moss

Caleb Moss, a 17-year-old student at Christian County High School, is preparing for life beyond high school through the Profile of a Graduate competencies. These competencies have provided him with the skills and mindset needed to communicate effectively, think critically, and adapt to new challenges. Through his high school experiences, Caleb has developed into a career- and work-ready professional, eager to contribute to his community and beyond.

Reflecting on High School Growth

Looking back on his four years at Christian County High School, Caleb recognizes how the Profile of a Graduate framework has shaped him. He has gained the ability to communicate in different settings, problem-solve with others, and take initiative in his learning. These skills have not only helped him succeed in the classroom but have also prepared him for future endeavors.

Empathetic Communicator: Learning to See Different Perspectives

One of the key competencies Caleb developed was becoming an empathetic communicator. A pivotal moment came during his freshman or sophomore year when he wrote an argumentative paper about whether U.S. presidents should undergo mental health screenings. This assignment forced him to examine different political viewpoints, marking his first real experience in understanding multiple perspectives. It was a valuable lesson in expressing ideas through writing rather than just verbal debate.

Accountable Self-Starter: Leadership Through FFA

As a member of the FFA officer team, Caleb honed his leadership skills. His role required him to speak in front of large audiences, make quick decisions, and organize events for his chapter. Through this experience, he learned how to take initiative, adapt to new challenges, and successfully execute plans—qualities that will serve him well in any future career.

Innovative Critical Thinker: Founding Howe Adventures

One of Caleb’s most significant accomplishments was helping establish Howe Adventures, a community event launched during his freshman year. The event posed many logistical challenges, from securing a venue to attracting attendees from surrounding counties. However, through strategic planning and problem-solving, the event quickly grew in popularity. Attendance doubled in the second year, and even during rainy conditions in the third year, nearly 1,000 people participated. The event’s success highlighted Caleb’s ability to think critically and execute innovative ideas.

Collaborative Problem Solver: Overcoming Unexpected Challenges

Collaboration is another essential skill Caleb developed. One memorable experience involved helping his agriculture teacher build a pig pen. After work one evening, Caleb was called to assist with the project, only to find that the instructions were incorrect. Instead of giving up, he and his teacher worked together to assemble the pen without proper guidance, ensuring the pig and her piglets had a safe enclosure. This experience reinforced the importance of teamwork, adaptability, and perseverance.

Career and Work-Ready Professional: Hands-On Experience in Drone Technology

Caleb has spent the past year working at Bestway, where he specializes in repairing high-end drones, some valued at over $10,000. This job has given him real-world experience in a professional setting, where he is trusted with expensive equipment and complex tasks. Through this work, he has learned the importance of responsibility, attention to detail, and technical problem-solving.

Adaptable Learner: Preparing for FAA Certification

In addition to his job, Caleb is currently studying for his FAA Part 107 certification, which will allow him to legally fly drones for agricultural spraying in Kentucky and beyond. Preparing for the exam has been challenging, especially when learning how to interpret aviation maps, but Caleb remains determined to master the material and earn his certification.

Looking Ahead: A Future of Endless Possibilities

As he approaches graduation, Caleb is still exploring his options for the future. However, he feels confident that the skills he has developed through the Profile of a Graduate process will guide him toward success, whether in the workforce or higher education. His experiences in communication, leadership, problem-solving, and adaptability have prepared him to make a positive impact in his community and beyond.

With a strong foundation and a commitment to growth, Caleb Moss is ready to embrace whatever opportunities lie ahead.
