As the new Christian County High School prepares to open its doors in Fall 2026, the district proudly welcomes home one of its most accomplished runners and respected coaches: Roger Volk, the newly appointed Cross Country Coach for the unified CCHS athletics program.
A 1977 graduate of Christian County High School, Volk carved his name into Colonel history long before stepping into the coaching ranks. During his time as a student-athlete, he became the first Colonel runner to ever medal at the state cross country meet, a milestone that paved the way for future generations of runners in Christian County. His dominance extended across both sports he competed in—earning four individual regional titles combined in cross country and track.
Volk’s extraordinary achievements earned him recognition long after graduation. In 2011, he was inducted into both the Christian County Athletic Hall of Fame and the Heritage Christian County Athletic Hall of Fame, solidifying his impact on the community and its athletic legacy.
Beyond athletics, Volk pursued academic excellence as well. He earned an Associate in Fine Arts from the University of Kentucky in 1979 and later completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Integrated Studies with a concentration in Organizational Communication from Murray State University in 2012. His blend of athletic experience, leadership, and communication skill has made him an outstanding mentor for student-athletes.
Most recently, Volk served as the Head Cross Country Coach at Hopkinsville High School from 2023 to 2025, guiding the Tigers with dedication and a deep understanding of the sport. Now, he returns to his alma mater at a historic moment—bringing decades of experience, community pride, and a commitment to shaping runners who excel both on and off the course.
Executive Principal Ken Carver shared his excitement for Volk joining the staff, highlighting the strength he brings to the school’s inaugural cross country program. Carver noted that Volk, along with his coaching colleagues Zach and Will, will help establish a powerful foundation rooted in tradition, excellence, and a passion for developing young athletes.
As Christian County prepares to launch a new era under one unified high school, Coach Roger Volk stands as a symbol of legacy returning to lead the future. His story—rooted in Colonel pride and shaped by decades of dedication—will no doubt inspire the first generation of runners to compete under the new Christian County High School banner.
