Sinking Fork Student Honored as Military Child of the Month

Corban Collins, a bright and ambitious 10-year-old fifth grader at Sinking Fork Elementary School, recently experienced a moment he’ll never forget. As the proud son of MSG Christopher Collins, a U.S. Army truck mechanic, and Erin Collins, Corban represents the resilience and strength of military children across the country.

In honor of April’s Month of the Military Child, Corban and his family were invited to be special guests of Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. Their visit to the Capitol was highlighted in a WKDZ news article that celebrated the unique sacrifices made by military families. Corban described the experience as “cool,” sharing that he and his family were given a full tour of the Capitol and had the chance to meet the Governor himself.

“It was a long trip, but every minute was worth it,” Corban said with excitement. Upon returning to school, Corban felt like a celebrity as classmates and staff buzzed about his news appearance and special visit.

Being a military child comes with its challenges, but Corban continues to show incredible strength. He excels in school, supports his father’s military service, and remains a positive and determined young leader. His future dreams are just as inspiring—Corban aspires to become a paleontologist because he loves history and wants to study fossils and uncover secrets of the past.

Outside the classroom, Corban is an active basketball player and has his sights set on joining the band at Christian County Middle School next year, where he plans to play the snare drum.

The entire Sinking Fork Elementary family is proud of Corban for his achievements, his resilience, and his unwavering spirit. He is truly an outstanding representative of military children.
