South Christian Elementary teacher Jennifer Gallagher has successfully completed the EPIC Numeracy Alliance, a rigorous two-year professional learning program designed to strengthen mathematics instruction and improve student outcomes across Kentucky.
Funded by the Kentucky Department of Education through House Bill 162, the EPIC Numeracy Alliance provides educators with extensive professional development opportunities focused on deepening mathematics content knowledge and implementing research-based instructional practices.
During the two-year program, Gallagher participated in a variety of learning experiences, including Carnegie Learning’s Patterns courses, monthly asynchronous learning modules, virtual communities of practice, individual coaching sessions with EPIC mathematics coaches, and in-person professional learning events culminating in a graduation celebration.
The program emphasizes effective mathematics teaching practices, the Standards for Mathematical Practice, productive struggle, meaningful student discourse, and the use of high-quality instructional resources to support student learning.
Gallagher’s completion of the EPIC Numeracy Alliance reflects a commitment to continuous professional growth and instructional excellence. The knowledge and strategies gained through the program will help support student achievement in mathematics at South Christian Elementary for years to come.
