Sweeney Leads Hopkinsville Tigers to Dominant Win Over Union County

Dylan Sweeney delivered a strong performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 as the Hopkinsville Varsity Tigers rolled past Union County with an 11-1 victory on Tuesday. Sweeney recorded singles in the first, second, and sixth innings, helping fuel the Tigers’ offensive attack.

Hopkinsville broke the game open in the sixth inning, scoring six runs to seal the win. Gavin Mitchell drove in a run with a single, while Layton Lindsey, Joshua “Deuce” Embrey II, Andrew Mayes, and Griffen Meacham each drew bases-loaded walks to bring in additional runs. Jayden Kellum capped off the inning with an RBI single.

The Tigers wasted no time getting on the board, scoring three runs in the first inning. Gavin Powell started things off with an RBI single, and Lindsey’s fielder’s choice allowed two more runs to score. Sweeney added to the lead in the second with another RBI single, making it 4-1.

On the mound, Mitchell turned in a strong outing, allowing just three hits and one unearned run over six innings. The right-hander struck out seven and walked two to earn the win. Union County’s starter, C Capps, took the loss after surrendering five runs (four earned) on seven hits over four innings.

The Tigers collected 10 hits, with Kellum and Chase Fort each recording multiple hits. Lindsey led the team with three RBIs, while Powell and Mayes demonstrated patience at the plate, each drawing two of the team’s 10 total walks.
