Christian County High School students Talan Ezell and Hunter Gray are taking their classroom learning to the next level through their work-based learning placements at State Electric, a new partner in the Fusion Work-Based Learning Program. Under the mentorship of owner Matt Crick and experienced professional Randy Belcher, Talan and Hunter are gaining real-world experience in electrical work while contributing to an exciting local project—the construction of the new Christian County High School.
Talan Ezell, an Agriculture Pathway student at CCHS, and Hunter Gray, a senior in the Gateway Academy Industrial and Residential Maintenance Pathway, are actively participating in the electrical contracting work for the new high school. This hands-on experience connects their classroom instruction to a major construction project, giving them the opportunity to develop both technical skills and a sense of pride in contributing to their community.
Their work at State Electric goes beyond technical expertise, as they are also developing critical employability skills and soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and attention to detail. These competencies align with Christian County Public Schools’ Profile of a Graduate, which prepares students to succeed as Career- and Work-Ready Professionals in their chosen fields.
State Electric’s commitment to mentoring students reflects the importance of partnerships between local businesses and schools. By hosting Talan and Hunter, they are not only investing in the future workforce but also empowering students to take meaningful steps toward their career goals.
Christian County Public Schools extends its gratitude to Matt Crick and the team at State Electric for their dedication to mentoring students and for supporting the Fusion Work-Based Learning Program. Their involvement helps prepare students like Talan and Hunter to excel in the electrical and maintenance industries while contributing to the community in meaningful ways.
