The Hopkinsville High School Tigers baseball team lit up the scoreboard Thursday night with a dominant 14-4 win over Northeast, showcasing explosive offense and solid teamwork from start to finish.
The Tigers wasted no time getting started, plating five runs in the first inning. Jayden Kellum drew a walk to bring in the first run, followed by an RBI single from Layton Lindsey. Gavin Mitchell added a heads-up tag-up score, and Andrew Mayes capped the inning with a two-RBI single to give Hoptown an early lead.
They kept the pressure on in the second. Chase Fort tagged up to score, and back-to-back hits from Deuce Embrey II and Griffen Meacham brought in two more. In the third, Kellum added to the lead with a two-run single, keeping the Tigers in full control.
Mayes earned the win on the mound, pitching nearly five innings while striking out four and holding Northeast to just two earned runs. Gavin Powell came in for relief work and helped secure the win.
Hopkinsville’s offense was on fire, collecting 14 hits. Kellum led the team with three RBIs, while Powell, Mayes, Embrey II, Meacham, and Fort all had two hits each. The lineup showed balance, power, and patience at the plate—key traits of a team finding its stride.
With strong pitching, solid defense, and bats that just won’t quit, the Tigers are making a statement this season. Next up: a showdown at University Heights on Monday. Hopkinsville is ready to keep the momentum rolling.
