Welding Students Showcase Skills in Fabrication and Demonstration

At Gateway Academy, the Welding Scholars are putting their skills to work, combining hands-on learning with mentorship. Recently, the welding students took on the task of breaking down blueprints and fabricating a new metal storage rack for their workspace. This project not only challenged them to apply their technical knowledge but also provided them with real-world experience in reading and executing detailed plans.

In addition to the fabrication project, upperclassmen in the program are stepping up to mentor the next generation of welders. One upperclassman gave a live demonstration of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) for the freshmen, showcasing the process and explaining the technical aspects in a clear and engaging manner. This demonstration allowed the freshmen to gain valuable insights into the craft and get a firsthand look at the precision and skill required in welding.

The project and demonstration highlight the collaborative spirit at Gateway Academy, where students learn from both instructors and peers while developing the skills necessary for future careers in welding. The fabrication of the new metal storage rack is just one example of how these scholars are applying what they’ve learned in the classroom to real-world tasks, preparing them for success in their chosen pathways.
