Samiyah Gonzalez, a student in the CCHS/Gateway Biomedical pathway, is gaining valuable hands-on experience at the Hopkinsville Child Development Center (HCDC), Hopkinsville’s first bilingual child care center.
HCDC’s mission is to educate and nurture children in a culturally diverse community, preparing them to be successful in life, confident learners, and true friends. The center is committed to nurturing individuality and diversity through a culturally rich experience.
Connecting Biomedical Studies to Child Care
Samiyah’s work at the daycare provides an excellent bridge between her biomedical studies and real-world healthcare applications. Here’s why this experience is invaluable for biomedical pathway students:
Child Development Knowledge – Understanding developmental milestones, health needs, and growth patterns connects directly to biomedical and healthcare fields. Students learn to recognize typical versus atypical development, which is essential for future healthcare professionals.
Health & Safety Application – Working in a child care setting allows students to apply knowledge about hygiene, nutrition, first aid, and preventing the spread of illness in a real-world environment. These practical skills are fundamental to any healthcare career.
Cultural Competency – In HCDC’s bilingual, culturally diverse environment, students develop essential communication and cultural awareness skills that will serve them throughout their medical careers.
A Win-Win Partnership
This collaboration between CCHS Gateway and HCDC demonstrates the power of community partnerships in education. Students like Samiyah gain practical experience that enriches their classroom learning, while the child development center benefits from enthusiastic, health-conscious team members.
Special thanks to Ms. Daisy and her dedicated team at HCDC for providing this wonderful opportunity for our students. Your commitment to both early childhood education and mentoring future healthcare professionals is making a real difference in our community.
Great work, Samiyah! We’re proud to see our Gateway Biomedical students applying their knowledge and making a positive impact in Hopkinsville.
