The Christian County Colonels took the field at the Stadium of Champions on Saturday evening for their historic last first game, beginning what promises to be a memorable farewell season. Though visiting Northeast ultimately pulled away, the Colonels showed flashes of grit, energy, and big-play potential that give fans plenty to be excited about in 2025.
Christian County set the tone early when quarterback Tom Johnson connected with Zyon Wharton for a 38-yard touchdown strike, putting the Colonels ahead 7–0. The defense followed with a strong first quarter, forcing punts and securing their first takeaway of the year with an interception from Jimmarion Byrd.
The Colonels’ offense continued to battle, highlighted by Johnson’s 62-yard touchdown pass to Michael Tandy and a short rushing score from Deasian Harris. Johnson, who played with poise throughout the night, threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns before leaving late with an injury. Tandy finished with 87 yards and a touchdown, while Wharton added 82 yards and a score of his own.
Even in the face of adversity, the Colonels displayed resilience and heart—traits that will define this final season of Christian County football. Every game in 2025 carries a sense of history, and Saturday’s opener was the first chapter of a season-long celebration of Colonel pride, tradition, and toughness.
The Colonels now turn their focus to their home matchup with perennial power Mayfield on Friday, August 29 at 7 p.m. at the Stadium of Champions. With the community behind them, this team is ready to keep fighting and make every moment of their farewell tour count.
One last time, for all time—Go Colonels!
