HHS FFA Represents at 98th National FFA Convention

Hopkinsville High School’s FFA chapter made its mark at the 98th National FFA Convention and Expo, held October 28-30 in Louisville, Kentucky. Twelve dedicated students represented HHS with pride, participating in competitive events, networking opportunities, and educational experiences that showcased the best of agricultural education.

A Historic Moment for Spanish Creed

The convention held special significance for two HHS students who have been instrumental in expanding opportunities for Spanish-speaking FFA members. Fernando Ginez-Rojas competed in the National Spanish Creed Invitational, representing both HHS and his Hispanic heritage with distinction. His participation highlights the growing inclusivity within FFA and the organization’s commitment to serving all students.

In a touching moment of recognition, Madelin Macario received national acknowledgment for her pioneering role in establishing the Spanish Creed contest. Two years ago, Macario competed in the Creed contest when no Spanish division existed, requiring her to compete against English speakers. Her perseverance and advocacy helped pave the way for the Spanish Creed Invitational that exists today, ensuring future students like Fernando have the opportunity to compete in their native language.

Networking and Professional Development

The twelve-member delegation—Fernando Ginez-Rojas, Madelin Macario, Aiden Wood, Anthony Webster, Grace Cansler, Courtney Scott, Rose Scott, Langley Henderson, Jaydin Gilford, John Ward, Camden Parker, and Elijah Ebbinger—took full advantage of the convention’s networking opportunities. Students connected with representatives from colleges and universities, FFA members from across the nation, and business professionals, building relationships that will benefit their future careers.

The trip included enriching experiences outside the convention center. Students toured the Texas Roadhouse Corporate Headquarters in Louisville, gaining insight into the operations of a major restaurant corporation. The behind-the-scenes look at the company’s structure and business practices provided valuable lessons in corporate management and the food service industry.

The group also enjoyed an evening of entertainment at the Derby Dinner Playhouse, attending a performance of “Dial M for Murder.” The theatrical experience offered a cultural complement to the educational focus of the convention.

Looking Forward

The 98th National FFA Convention proved to be a transformative experience for HHS FFA members, combining competition, recognition, education, and fellowship. As these students return to Hopkinsville, they bring with them new knowledge, expanded networks, and the pride of representing their school and community on the national stage.
