CCHS Band of Colonels Welcomes New Assistant Band Directors

The Christian County High School Band of Colonels is thrilled to announce the addition of two new assistant band directors to their esteemed program.

Meet Nathaniel Nash

Nathaniel Nash will become Assistant Director of Bands at Christian County High School this fall. With a robust background in music education, Nash brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the Christian County Colonels, aiming to contribute significantly to the band’s legacy.

Nathaniel Nash’s Background and Achievements:

  • Previous Experience: Nash served as Director of Bands at Franklin-Simpson High School from 2016 to 2021. During his tenure, the marching band advanced to the KMEA Semi-Finals for the first time in 17 years, and the concert band consistently earned distinguished ratings at the KMEA Concert Band Assessment.
  • Education: Nash completed his Bachelor’s in Music Education in 2015 and recently earned his Master’s in Instrumental Conducting and Teacher Leadership from Western Kentucky University in 2024. During his graduate studies, he worked as a Graduate Assistant with the Big Red Marching Band and Big Red Pep Band and conducted the WKU Wind Ensemble and Southern Kentucky Community Concert Band.
  • Performance History: As a skilled trumpeter, Nash performed with The Cavaliers in Drum Corps International in 2011, achieving third place in the World Class Division. At WKU, he excelled in various ensembles, including the Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Trumpet Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Southern Kentucky Community Concert Band.
  • Community Engagement: Beyond his professional commitments, Nash actively participates in community and church performances.

Originally from Hodgenville, Kentucky, Nash attended LaRue County High School. He resides in Bowling Green with his wife, Angela Nash, the Director of Bands at Owensboro Middle School.

Welcoming Bonnie Cross

Joining Nash is Bonnie Cross, who will also serve as an Assistant Director of Bands at Christian County High School this fall. Cross brings fresh energy and a wealth of teaching experience to the program.

Bonnie Cross’s Background and Achievements:

  • Previous Experience: Cross recently completed her second year of teaching, having served as the Caldwell County Middle School Band Director last year. She was also the assistant band director and assistant track coach at Caldwell County High School and previously taught Arts and Humanities at Hopkinsville High School.
  • Private Lessons and Instruction: With nine years of experience teaching private flute lessons to students across Western Kentucky, Cross has also held instructional staff positions with several marching bands, including Hopkinsville High School, Trigg County High School, Murray High School, and Muhlenberg County High School.
  • Performance History: Cross has performed as a substitute flute player with the Owensboro Symphony and Evansville Philharmonic.
  • Education: Cross is a native of Trenton, KY, and graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance. She recently completed her Master of Arts in Teaching Music degree at the University of Cumberlands.

Cross resides in Murray with her husband, Ben Stone.

The Christian County High School Band of Colonels is excited to welcome Nathaniel Nash and Bonnie Cross to their team. Their diverse experiences and deep commitment to music education promise to enhance the band program and inspire students for years to come.
