Christian County Public Schools has announced the upcoming retirement of a remarkable individual, Ms. Anita Hopson, Director of Personnel. Yes, Ms. Hopson will be hanging up her hat effective October 1, 2024. But her story is one worth celebrating.
Anita Hopson began her journey in education at Morningside Elementary back in 1995. Picture this: a young teacher in the classroom, leaning over and whispering, “I love you,” to a student. That was Anita’s way. She wanted every child to know they were special, that they mattered. When her students at Belmont Elementary School acted up, they’d ask, “Ms. Hopson, do you still love us?” And when they needed comfort, they’d request, “Ms. Hopson, can you put on the jazz?”
Oh, the jazz. The sweet notes of soothing melodies echoed through the hallways, bringing calm and focus to young minds. Beyond the music, there was her commitment—helping students after school, ensuring they grasped the math fundamentals they’d need for the future. Her smile, a beacon every morning, is a cherished memory for many.
In 2014, she was promoted to Director of Elementary Education. She even stepped in as the interim principal at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary in 2017 for a brief stint. Since 2018, she has served with distinction as the district personnel director.
As part of the community of educators and staff who make CCPS what it is, we say thank you, Anita. We love you. And come October 1st, we’ll all be putting on some jazz in your honor.
