Strong Effort at the Plate Not Enough for Colonels in Close Loss

Sometimes the ball just seems to have a mind of its own. That was the case Friday night when chaos unfolded on a bizarre play that had fans scratching their heads. What looked like a routine moment turned strange as the ball bounced off the opposing catcher’s glove and then off the bat of Blake Boehman. The odd deflection was ruled a foul, but it was just one of many moments where things didn’t quite go Christian County’s way.

Despite out-hitting their opponent 3-2, the Christian County Varsity Colonels came up short, falling 4-2 in a tight matchup.

Blake Boehman, Preston Stokes, and Layton Creamer each tallied a hit for the Colonels. Coalton Ingram and Eddie Davis brought in the team’s two runs, while the team showed patience at the plate with six walks—two apiece by Sebastian Dazey and Aiden Lewis.

Eddie Davis turned in a strong performance on the mound, striking out eight over four and two-thirds innings. He didn’t give up an earned run, but unfortunately was tagged with the loss after allowing two unearned runs on two hits and six walks.

The Colonels played solid defense, turning one double play in the game, but the night will be remembered for a ball that just wouldn’t behave—and a game that slipped away despite plenty of opportunities.
