The Christian County Colonels faced one of the state’s toughest opponents Friday night as they hosted the Mayfield Cardinals at the Stadium of Champions. While the final score went Mayfield’s way, the Colonels walked off the field with bright spots that carry special meaning in this historic final season.
Junior DeAsian Harris led the charge for Christian County, powering his way to 74 yards on 18 carries. His ability to push through Mayfield’s pressure and fight for every yard highlighted his leadership and gave his teammates glimpses of the greatness this team is capable of. Harris’ performance is exactly the kind of toughness the Colonels will lean on as they write the closing chapter of their storied program.
Freshman quarterback Mason Cansler made his first varsity start under the lights against a relentless Mayfield defense. Cansler stood tall in the pocket, completing seven passes for 58 yards and showing poise beyond his years. His debut may have come against one of the state’s best, but the experience will help him—and the team—grow as the season moves forward.
The Colonels came within a yard of the end zone in the fourth quarter, showcasing their fight until the final whistle. While the points didn’t come Friday night, the effort and determination showed the heart of a team that refuses to back down.
This fall marks the last time the Christian County Colonels will take the field as their own program before consolidation with Hopkinsville High School. Every snap, every carry, and every drive holds meaning. With Harris providing leadership and Cansler gaining confidence at quarterback, the Colonels are determined to make this final season one to remember.
